Herne Funkenbergquartier EAst

Over the next few years, the former industrial site of the mining supplier Pumpen-Müller is to be transformed into a unique opportunity quarter for Herne - the FunkenbergQuartier. The area north of Herne's railroad station and pedestrian zone is planned as a place of knowledge-based urban development and a central building block for the future-oriented reorientation of the city.

The University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration NRW (HSPV) forms the anchor of the district's development. Institutes as well as knowledge and technology-oriented service companies from the fields of education, research and development will complement the district - such as the Transformation Center for Georesources and Ecology.

The district concept also focuses on needs-based living space, restaurants and cultural facilities. The urban planning concept developed by STAHM Architekten provides for a robust basic structure that allows flexible development of the usage modules and building plots. A central square and a car-free open space axis form the focal point of the quarter and create attractive and generous open spaces. The result is a place that invites people to linger and is a milestone in the structural transformation of the city of Herne.
