HERTEN HERTENER HÖFE

New city centre quarter: The former Karstadt building, which was converted into the Herten Forum in the 1980s, stood empty for a long time. In 2019, Bonn-based investor Phoenix development GmbH purchased the central property with the vision of laying the foundations for a new neighbourhood development.

The city followed the developer's plans, sold further plots of land required for realisation to the
plots of land required for realisation to the investor and a joint
development plan procedure was initiated. Corona, the war in Ukraine and
and many contaminated sites temporarily hampered the realisation - the grand opening ceremony can now take place in Herten in autumn 2024.

According to the plans of the Düsseldorf architects from RKW+, the quarter consisting of three building structures was erected to accommodate the routes between the city centre and the new S-Bahn station. The centre is not a self-contained structure, but an open ensemble. The uses are divided into retail, services, offices and a medical centre. The main tenants include EDEKA, ALDI, Rossmann and the district of Recklinghausen, which intends to operate the job centre here in the long term. Another focal point is catering: from Subway to a cocktail bar on the roof, a wide range of the Ruhr region's population is catered for. Long-term leases, many even longer than 10 years, mean that the property is well positioned for the future.
