In the 4th quarter of 2024, work will begin on the shell of the new building complex planned by architects gna with an underground car park and a total of around 10,000 square metres of usable space. In addition to 51 publicly subsidised flats, a new registry office for the city of Essen will be built by the end of 2026, which will take up a large part (almost 4,000 square metres) of the newly created usable space. Modern, contemporary office space will also be created for the other purposes and requirements of a registry office. The location directly on Weberplatz, which will also be redesigned, will provide wedding parties with space for an enjoyable get-together.
A catering facility will be located on the ground floor. This will expand the gastronomic diversity in the city centre with a high-quality offering and should contribute to the revitalisation of Weberplatz. This will also be given a new look by the city of Essen. Under the heading ‘The green living room on Weberplatz’, a concept by Greenbox
landscape architects is being realised. Essen's Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen and Allbau Managing Director Dirk Miklikowski believe in WEBER1 and the northern city centre location: ‘We are creating a modern, attractive new district with a strong appeal that will shape the cityscape!’
